Next weekend looks to be an exciting one in the Crosby area. Fresh off the success of the Crosby Night Street Market local entrepreneur Alex McElhoney, co-owner of Albion Restaurant, is launching Crosby’s first Festival of the Sea.
Now I know what you are thinking – why another failed attempt at resurrecting a dead town centre? Well in answer, and judging by Alex’s record to date, this will be far from failed. The night markets have been a real success bringing foodies from all over the Crosby area in to the village, combining quality street food with ingenious performances and events.
In fact the only criticism of these night markets should be levelled at the people of Crosby who, though increasing in numbers, are still reluctant to put their money where their very critical mouths are and support these events.
This Festival of the Sea is a brave move and has taken the street market idea that step further as a two day event, two full days at that! Hopefully this will receive the support it deserves from the people of Crosby and the wider region, being 10-5 on both days must surely call the bluff of any who churn out the old excuses: had something on, watching TV, doing my hair etc. The festival maintains the winning formula of food and music and includes some decent names such as the Shanty Kings and Adam McLoughlin whilst maintaining quality food through the stalls of Real Thai Pie, Jason Jamie, Christine’s Cakes and the Amazing Mr Meatball.
The event will take place in and around the village, with a stage for performances and the usual spread of food market stalls. The difference this time is the link to the sea, a much forgotten element for many living in Crosby but we are a coastal town with a rich maritime tradition. This is something oft neglected by those who live the other side of the rail lines with only the squawk of seagulls to remind us! Alex is looking to capitalise upon this maritime theme with the involvement of the RNLI and Crosby Coastal Team. Another regular element of Alex’s events is the welcome involvement of local schools with St Nicholas’ and Summerhill Primary schools both performing in the past. This looks set to continue with St Nick’s, Great Crosby and St Luke’s taking part this time.
I am a big fan of community events and recognise the hard work and effort that goes into the organisation of them and, I am sure, this is no exception. So what looks to be a great two days of food, music and enjoyment just needs 2 factors: your support and good weather. Make the effort for the former and fingers crossed for the latter!
STOP PRESS!!! Here is the latest running order for the 2 days: Crosby Festival of the Sea running order
Hi Mate are there any running orders to say when which band is on? Thanks Ged
Sorry Ged don’t have anything yet but will contact the organiser to see if I can find out.
Ged the organiser said he is hoping to finalise the running order ASAP but he did say the Shanty Kings are playing both days. Hope that helps.

Thanks for recommending this event. We had a great day out. The kids loved the donkeys the fairground rides and sitting on the deck chairs with lolly ices. There was a really good choice of top notch food from the stalls and the entertainment was super. The little singing pirates were really cute. We need more of these events in the village, well done to those who organised it.
Took the grand kids to the village and treated them to scouse and pancakes for their dinners. Proper hearty food at good prices and a really good family atmosphere.
